Frequently Asked Questions about CoolSculpting and DualSculpting
*Individual Results May Vary
CoolSculpting is a relatively new procedure. It has been thoroughly tested and FDA approved, but if you’re like most people, you’re going to have some questions about CoolSculpting, including what it is, how it works, etc. Below are some frequently asked questions, and please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you have any additional questions or comments.
Q: What is CoolSculpting?
A: CoolSculpting is a new, FDA approved fat freezing process. There is a phenomenon in the body where fat cells are affected by cold more than any other cell in the body. By freezing an area of the body to the perfect temperature, you can kill fat cells while leaving all other cells intact. Those fat cells will then be safely removed by your own white blood cells over time.
Q: What is DualSculpting?
A: DualSculpting is the same process as CoolSculpting, except with two separate machines to reduce visits and reduce time.
Q: What can I expect during my Orange County CoolSculpting consultation?
A: The first thing you will do is to identify the area(s) of your body to be treated by CoolSculpting. The areas will then be mapped for cryolipolysis treatment by our Dr. Agha and our CoolSculpting technician. The areas will then be assessed for the amount of excess fat and the ability to draw the area into the applicator. You will then be shown the extent of the area mapped for cryolipolysis.
Q: What Can I Expect to Experience During My Treatment?
A: After careful analysis by Dr. Agha and his staff, the “pinchable skin” will be placed in the applicator. The CoolSculpting cycle will then be started, which will draw the bulge of unwanted fat inbetween its two cool panels. You can expect to feel a firm pull and sensation of pressure which means that the fat tissue that is selected will be cooled most efficiently. You will then feel a cold that most find harmless but a few find discomforting. This cold will last only a few minutes. Afterwards, most patients simply relax and read, listen to music, or play on their phones. The treatment lasts anywhere from 1 hour to 75 minutes depending on the area that is being treated.
Q: Are There Any Complications to CoolSculpting or DualSculpting?
A: Because CoolSculpting is not invasive and not a surgery, there are no significant complications currently for the CoolSculpting procedure. However, after the procedure is over, redness, burning, swelling, and bruising may occur. In rare cases there can be a numbness that lasts for a few weeks, but it will go away. Talk to Dr. Agha about all of the risks if you’re concerned.
Q: Can You Freeze Fat Anywhere on the Body?
A: CoolSculpting has not yet been approved for areas around the breast and neck, as well as a few other parts of the body. It also must be pinchable fat – enough to fit inside of the machines. However, new applicators are constantly being developed and soon we should be able to expand the use of fat freezing technology to other areas of the body. The best thing you can do is come into the office for a consultation.
Q: When Can I Resume Normal Activities?
A: You can resume most activities immediately after the procedure. It is recommended that you avoid exercise until the next day. But since CoolSculpting is non invasive, there are few activities you truly need to avoid. Keep in mind that redness and bruising may occur, so if you needed to model for work you may want to wait until the redness has gone away.
Q: When Will I See Results?
A: You can start seeing results in as little as 3 weeks, and full results between 60 days and 90 days. This is the time it takes for your body to start removing the damaged fat cells.
Q: What Do I Need to Do After the Treatments Are Over?
A: There are no medications or follow up treatments necessary. You do not need to change your diet or exercise regime unless you want to or are instructed to by a doctor. You should continue working on maintaining your weight, but that maintenance will have little effect on the outcome of the procedure.
Q: What will I feel during the procedure?
A: First of all, CoolSculpting is non-invasive, and there is no need for anesthesia. Once the CoolSculpting device is placed on your body and the cooling process begins, you will feel slight pressure and intense cold for the first few minutes. Not long after this the sensation subsides. For many patients the rest of the treatment is so simple that some choose to read, work on their computers or even catch a nap!
Q: How long will my treatment take?
A: Each patient is unique and during your consultation, our Orange County CoolSculpting Experts will individualize your treatment plan and at that time will be able to advise you on how long your procedure will take. Generally, CoolSculpting sessions are approximately one hour. Again, each patient is unique and depending on the number of areas, treatment could last from one to several hours.
Q: At what point will I be able to resume my normal activities?
A:Most patients have expressed they were able to resume their normal activities immediately due to the fact that CoolSculpting is very quick, painless and non-invasive. There have been instances where a patient has informed us that they experienced redness, tingling, numbness, minor bruising or mild discomfort at the site of treatment. However, they did explain this is temporary and those symptoms subsided completely. For the majority of patients we have treated, they have expressed such ease with CoolSculpting that they were able to return directly to work after their sessionis completed.
Q: What type of results can I expect?
A:There are cases where patients have expressed they have their desired results after one session. One of the interesting things about CoolSculpting is that after you have completed your first treatment, there is the option to attain an even more dramatic result by undergoing additional CoolSculpting treatments at 6 to 8 weeks later. Dr. Agha’s personalized approach and understanding of the necessity for an individualized plan will help you to set realistic expectations regarding your desired outcome.
Q: When will I see the results of my treatment?
A: You can expect to see improvement in your appearance in as little as 1 month after your CoolSculpting treatment, Most patients have seen more dramatic results approximately 3 months post CoolSculpting treatment. Each patients results will vary but we have found this to be the typical pattern in results.
Q: Will I experience any pain and side effects from my treatment?
A: This is an important question to ask when considering any cosmetic procedure whether surgical or non-surgical in nature. CoolSculpting has been cleared by the FDA for treatment of the flanks (love handles), the arms, the abdomen, and the thighs. The FDA has found this to be a safe and effective non-surgical technique for sculpting your body in those areas. One of the great things about CoolSculpting is you do not have any downtime. This is because CoolSculpting is non-invasive by its very nature, however, some patients have expressed temporary pain and/or discomfort at the treatment site during the procedure. Most of our patients have not expressed significant pain after the procedure or seeked strong pain killers.
Q: What can I expect to pay for CoolSculpting in Orange County?
A: There are several factors to consider with the price of CoolSculpting here in Orange County. First, identifying the areas of your body you would like to improve and most importantly what your desired results are post-treatment. This is important to clarify with Dr. Agha and our CoolSculpting technician due to the number of treatments that may be necessary to achieve your desired results. Once we have added up the nareas that need treatment, we will provide you with an estimate of your overall cost for your individualized CoolSculpting treatment.
Q: Will my CoolSculpting treatments last?
A: During your treatment, CoolSculpting freezes fat cells under your skin and which are eventually disposed of. You can expect your results to be long-lasting since the frozen fat cells in the treated area are destroyed. However, you will still have fat cells, so continue to take care of your body and your health to ensure that you are able to maintain the body you have always wanted.
