One of the “holy grails” of body contouring and plastic surgery was to find a way to help men and women shape their body without any surgical procedures, like liposuction. Though hundreds of thousands of people living in Orange County want to shape their bodies, not everyone is ready or willing to have invasive surgery, which has potential risks and complications, as well as a long and arduous recovery time.
In the last few years, however, several non-invasive alternatives to liposuction have come on the market, and they have quickly been taking off. One of the most popular, known as UltraShape, is an evidence based, scientifically validated technology that involves no cuts, no anesthesia, and no risks, while also proven to permanently eliminate fat cells in target areas.
Research Supports Body Contouring With UltraShape
The concept behind UltraShape has been around for over 15 years. Scientists found that when ultrasonic pulses were directed at specific fat cells inside of the body, the membrane that protects the fat cells would become damaged, eventually causing the cells to rupture, leak, and eventually be removed by the liver. The leaked contents of the cells, including triglycerides, also showed no accumulation or long term effects on the body (meaning that your body is capable of successfully removing the cells in full).
Once removed, these cells also show no signs of regeneration, indicating that fat cell removal is a permanent process for body contouring. The fat cells that remain can increase in size, so maintaining an appropriate weight is still crucial, but managing that weight in a way that still improves the appearance of the body and increases body confidence is theoretically easier.
Since its inception, several studies have supported the use of UltraShape and focused ultrasound technology to damage and eliminate fat cells, including:
- Characterization of Nonthermal Focused Ultrasound for Noninvasive Selective Fat Cell Disruption (Lysis): Technical and Preclinical Assessment. Brown Spencer et al. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. July 2009
- Body Contouring by Non-invasive Transdermal Focused Ultrasound. J. Moreno-Moraga et al. Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. 2007
- Noninvasive Body Contouring by Focused Ultrasound: Safety and Efficacy of the Contour I Device in a Multicenter, Controlled, Clinical Study. Teitelbaum Steven A et al. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. September 2007
These are only a few of the dozens of clinical research studies that support not only the use of targeted ultrasonic pulses to damage and eliminate fat cells, but also the safety and long term benefits of using UltraShape, which is currently the only non-thermal (no heat) ultrasound based body contouring device available today.
